“Oriole II” was designed in 1930 by renowned naval architect, L. Francis Herreshoff (design #46) and soon thereafter built by Lawley & Sons of Quincy, MA as the first “thirty-square meter” of its kind. She was built specifically to race on the international racing circuit for Elizabeth “Sis” Hovey, the first woman to win an international event. 

A number of changes in ownership took place over the years until 1991 when The Museum of Yachting in Newport, RI acquired her and commenced a total restoration. Oriole II is currenltey being maintained by Wooden Boat Works in Greenport NY

Oriole II is an open cockpit racer, with a dramatic swept-back mast, small jib sail and very large main sail. She has a full keel, with lead ballast. The decks are done in canvas and epoxy.
